Abstract
Due to its special climatic conditions, Iran has always faced a shortage of water resources. With the increase in water demand in various sectors, especially agriculture and climate change, the need for better management of water resources is felt more and more. Intelligent irrigation systems, as one of the new solutions, enable precise and optimal water management by using advanced technologies. Efficient management of water resources is inevitable, especially in the agricultural sector, which is the largest water consumer in the country. The use of intelligent irrigation systems is one of the effective ways to optimize water consumption and increase the productivity of agricultural products. Climatic changes, decrease in rainfall, and increase in water consumption in the agricultural sector led to use of new technologies for the optimal management of water resources. One of the emerging technologies in this field is smart irrigation systems that help optimize water consumption according to sensor data, advanced algorithms, and the Internet of Things (IoT). In recent years, drought and lack of water resources have become one of the main challenges in the arid regions of Iran. The management of water consumption in the agricultural sector is especially important in these areas, because this sector is one of the largest water consumers. In this regard, intelligent irrigation systems have been proposed as one of the new solutions to optimize water consumption. This article examines the effect of these systems in optimizing water consumption in dry areas of Iran.
