Abstract

Significant advancements have been made in the field of thermal energy storage (TES) in recent years. This study presents a comprehensive review and statistical analysis of research trends during 2004-2023. Publications related to TES research were collected from the Scopus database. VOSviewer and RStudio software were used to identify research trends, author status, countries, knowledge and research sources (journals), most cited articles, and frequently repeated keywords. A total of 11979 articles were retrieved between 2004 and 2023, and the annual number of publications on TES showed an overall upward trend. China was the most active country in this field with the largest number of articles. Cabeza, L.F. was the most active author with 223 articles published by him in this field. The journal JOURNAL OF ENERGY STORAGE has the most records in this field with 1073 articles registered. Topics such as thermal energy storage, thermal energy, phase change materials, storage (materials), thermal conductivity, energy storage, and thermal energy storage have been more popular among researchers. In general, this study can provide an overview of the global status of thermal energy storage research for various researchers to benefit from.
