Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate and measure the potential of improving heat transfer as well as thermal energy storage by means of phase change materials in buildings and its effect on reducing energy consumption in different climates of Iran. The selection and use of phase change materials suitable for different climates requires various tests to determine the appropriate effect on increasing the thermal efficiency of the desired materials and then reducing energy consumption and economic savings by researchers. In this research, the conditions of using phase change materials in the building have been investigated. Due to the limitations of building a real building, as well as investigating the effect of regional weather conditions on the use of phase change materials and in order to more concretely examine the effect of using phase change materials on the amount of energy consumption in the structure of the external walls of a building, from Design Builder software. Used. By applying weather conditions in six different regions of Iran, the changes in cooling and heating energy consumption were investigated. Also, a laboratory sample of concrete containing a layer of phase change material was made and subjected to thermal analysis. Finally, an economic analysis was carried out in order to better understand the suitable climate for the use of these materials. In this research, useful results were presented in order to direct and improve future researches, and the necessity of using phase change materials to improve the performance of thermal energy storage in Buildings and other users are highlighted.
