Abstract
Value engineering and risk management are two integral components of civil engineering project execution chains. Value and risk have an inseparable link to each other. However, both must be explicitly and transparently addressed in a coordinated program to ensure project success. Since value engineering often focuses on cost reduction in projects and cost reduction increases risks, the proper and systematic implementation of risk management and value engineering is necessary and beneficial. In this article, the general concept of value engineering and risk management is first explained. Then, after presenting the reasons and advantages of integrating the two methods, they are compared, and finally, an example of experiences in integrating risk management and value engineering in a project is discussed and examined.
